This training session is sold out. Unfortunately, we do not have a wait list. However, the Drupal Association is collecting names for interest in future training sessions.

You've just been handed a gorgeous, static Photoshop file. By tomorrow it needs to be a flexible, extensible, and compatible Drupal theme for some Web site you've never seen. Oh and they said something about it needing to be responsive to 508 or something like that? *gulp* No worries! In workshop, Drupal rock star Emma Jane Hogbin will help you to transform a Photoshop file into a real live theme. You will receive all of the code and step-by-step instruction workbooks to take home with you. Your day will end with a functional Drupal theme and a sense of pride knowing that you can build a Drupal theme.

We'll cover:

  • Rapid prototyping with Minimum Viable Themes.
  • Grid frameworks that save you time and make building themes a "snap".
  • Image extraction techniques that give you higher control over how your Drupal theme works on real web sites.
  • The powerful helper modules that make impossible coding tasks trivial--especially if you're afraid of code.

Who will gain the most from this course?

This workshop is appropriate for first-time themers with limited experience with HTML and CSS, but no experience with PHP. You are a graphic designer or a small business owner looking to increase your skills. Or you might also be a manager or project manager looking to improve your team and client communication skills.

What will you learn?

Participants will recreate the Domicile (http://drupal.org/project/domicile) and Vert (http://drupal.org/project/vert) themes from design files and wire frames. After the course, participants will have the resources to build working Drupal themes from their own design files.

What will you receive during the course?

PDF workbooks as handouts; 1 month of online course related support via a class forum

Pre-requisites for the course

Participants have experience using Drupal and are ready to create their first theme. You may prepare for this course by putting together a list of challenges you would like to overcome. There will be time during the day to address your specific questions about creating Drupal themes. Graphic designers are welcome to bring sample design files (PSD) to "workshop". Please make sure you have a graphics program installed on your laptop that can open a PSD file. The latest version of GIMP (www.gimp.org) will work perfectly.

Accolades

Students of Emma Jane Hogbin give glowing reviews of her workshops. Here's what a few of them have said:

Emma is provides guidance and direction that allows a group of people to understand new concepts and ways of doing things. Some people are gifted in one-to-one instruction and I think Emma has the rare ability to teach one-to-many very well. She has solid information, well-thought out instructional techniques and a generous desire to help students grasp new concepts. Emma goes the extra mile to help students "get it". James

I have learned so much in this course. I'm not afraid to dive into the php and css a little to make changes. I actually understand it a little now! I basically started at 0 at the beginning of the course. Danita

I wanted to tell you that this is the week that I fell in love with Drupal. I am working on catching up with the course - spending a couple of hours in the evening now - and omg - I don't know why but I love it! I thought I'd be about a year away from actually designing a site in Drupal but I'm chompin at the bit now to get going on it! Louise

Thanks for being such a positive Drupal influence for me! People say my eyes light up and they can really see my passion for Drupal, and I attribute a lot of what I know to you. I wouldn't be where I am without Front End Drupal, or the author, so thank you for helping make me a better Drupaller. Tyler

Note from Emma Jane, "I can't wait to see you in the workshop. This is one of my favorite topics. I love helping people transform their imagination into a working Drupal site. I look forward to working with you as we go From PSD to Drupal Theme!"
